Corrosion and Conservation of Cultural Heritage Metallic Artefacts (Hardcover, New): Philippe Dillmann, David Watkinson, Emma... Corrosion and Conservation of Cultural Heritage Metallic Artefacts (Hardcover, New)
Philippe Dillmann, David Watkinson, Emma Angelini, A Adriaens
R5,672 Discovery Miles 56 720 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The conservation of metallic archaeological and historic artefacts is a major challenge whether they are ancient bronzes or relics of our more recent industrial past. Based on the work of Working Party 21 Corrosion of Archaeological and Historical Artefacts within the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC), this important book summarises key recent research on analytical techniques, understanding corrosion processes and preventing the corrosion of cultural heritage metallic artefacts.
After an introductory part on some of the key issues in this area, part two reviews the range of analytical techniques for measuring and analysing corrosion processes, including time resolved spectroelectrochemistry, voltammetry and laser induced breakdown spectroscopy. Part three reviews different types of corrosion processes for a range of artefacts, whilst part four discusses on-site monitoring techniques. The final part of the book summaries a range of conservation techniques and strategies to conserve cultural heritage metallic artefacts.
Corrosion and conservation of cultural heritage metallic artefacts is an important reference for all those involved in archaeology and conservation, including governments, museums as well as those undertaking research in archaeology and corrosion science.

Nanoscience and Cultural Heritage (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2016): Philippe Dillmann, Ludovic Bellot-Gurlet, Irene Nenner Nanoscience and Cultural Heritage (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2016)

R4,166 Discovery Miles 41 660 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book aims to give state of the art in several domains of cultural heritage in which Nanosciences allow fundamental breakthrough. The first part of the book concerns nanostructured materials in ancient artifacts. Understanding their nature and formation processes bring new insight in the apprehension of technical level of ancient societies but can also inspire the design of new materials. The second part is dedicated to the understanding of materials. This crucial issue in material science today, for cultural heritage, needs to perform specific characterization techniques and technologies, but also to create tailored analytical strategies. Part three presents new methods, processes and materials at nano levels that can bring innovative solutions to conservation and restoration issues, linked with the understanding of the alteration processes involved at different scales.

Corrosion of Archaeological and Heritage Artefacts EFC 45 - A Special Issue of Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology... Corrosion of Archaeological and Heritage Artefacts EFC 45 - A Special Issue of Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology (Paperback)
Philippe Dillmann
R2,181 Discovery Miles 21 810 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This special issue of Corrosion Engineering Science and Technology is dedicated to the study of corrosion of objects from historical sites. The issue contains contributions from the 2009 EUROCORR session on Corrosion of Archaeological and Heritage Artefacts organised by the European Federation of Corrosion's working party and commissioned articles on other key issues. The objective is to give the reader a broad understanding of corrosion of ancient materials, for the most part metal but also glass. Articles shed light on a range of analytical approaches related to the study of the complex systems that make up historical artifacts. In order to arrive at an understanding of the nanometric organisation of rust layers and interphases, such studies must be approached on a macroscopic scale. Techniques used include; macrophotography, synchrotron radiation and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) that ensure results that are both exhaustive and representative of particular observations. This issue demonstrates the wealth of approaches possible in the study of the corrosion of ancient materials.
